Container Port Ltd was created to provide leading edge software and
services to the container transport industry and to improve transportation
processes throught the use of mobile computing . The concept arose from
work being carried out with the Mersey Maritime Sector by AIMES (Advanced
Internet Methods and Emergent Systems) at The University of Liverpool, a
leader in the transfer of e-science activity to e-business solutions.
Through the promotion of RFID to the maritime community AIMES identified
an opportunity to provide a cargo tracking system for inland transport of
maritime containers. Following further work with The University's
E-Business Research Centre, a centre of expertise in supply chain
management, and James Douglas , a software and business process consultant
with 20+ years experience in the Container shipping industry, Container
Port was born. Initial design and development was carried out in
conjunction with leading shipping and haulage companies in the North West:
JMD Haulage and Atlantic Container Line."
